Located next to the Plaza Mayor, in the popular street Calle de Cuchilleros, this is one of Madrid’s most traditional restaurants. The menu showcases traditional Castilian cuisine with suckling pork and lamb, as well as Madrid’s typical offal stew known as callos, cocido de puchero meat and chickpea stew, and typical local desserts.
As soon as you enter, you are greeted by Candelas himself and attended by staff wearing typical clothing worn by famous nineteenth-century bandits.
It has several rooms each decorated differently, which transport you back to different points in history, offering high quality service. It also has an outdoor terrace next to the Arco de Cuchilleros.
The varied and extensive wine list has been carefully selected to accompany their dishes.
There is also a small museum dedicated to the life of the popular bandit from Madrid, offering an immersive experience that combines lighting, sound and narration to transport visitors back to 19th-century Madrid.
