Construction of the Antonio Magariños Sports Centre began in 1965, and five years later (1970) it was opened as the official court for the Estudiantes Basketball Club. With the construction of these facilities on the Ramiro de Maeztu land, under the Presidency of Mr. Pedro Dellmans, the student facilities were one of the best venues for basketball matches at that time.
Magariños has capacity for 600 spectators. Today, it is the headquarters of the Women’s Liga team and the teams of the Estudiantes Club.
In 2020, the sports centre was renamed Movistar Academy Magariños as it embarked on a new stage, not only hosting major sporting events, but also aiming to become an inspirational space for young people in the fields of sport, business, education and culture.
Despite the change of name, the sports centre maintains its essence as the emblematic and iconic home to the largest and most inclusive sporting talent pool in Europe, while seeking to set the standard for any discipline that inspires people to build higher quality relationships.
This sports centre also has a gymnasium, a medical centre with physiotherapy service and a cafeteria-restaurant next to the court, which serves daily menus.
