The Barrio de Moscardó neighbourhood in the Usera district is home to this gallery and bookstore specialising in Japanese printmaking, which will have its official opening on 5 April. It will be exhibiting some of the Japanese prints it houses, along with the work of different artists who temporarily collaborate with the space.
The name of the gallery is composed of the ideograms 風 “wind” and 土 “earth”. Fûdo is the Japanese concept for “environment”, designating the anthropo-ecological unit formed by the climate, landscape and culture.
Japanese woodblock printing is the perfect example of the union between art and craftsmanship. The images combine aesthetic beauty and skilled craftsmanship, with a poetic gaze trained on the surroundings and the manual dexterity required to capture it. The complexity of its simplicity makes Japanese prints the perfect antithesis of our time, the perfect aesthetic environment (Fûdo) to escape from our own.
In the bookstore, you can find copies of Japanese children's literature, books on illustration, naturalistic novels, essays on ecology..., and you can also order any books not available in store.
