Since 2023, the Casa 1880 store at number 18, Calle Arenal is home Madrid’s first turrón nougat museum. With hourly passes and a self-guided tour, visitors will discover the history of this delicious sweet spanning more than 500 years, as well as tasting some of its varieties and other Christmas sweets.
The interactive route through the exhibition kicks off with a tunnel lined with almond blossom. The sounds and aromas of a cultivated field take us to the first stage of this sensory journey that begins with the ingredients, pauses to look at the first tools involved in its production, the customs and habits of the time through traditional clothing, and concludes with the visitor participating in a story that continues to be written.
The visit ends with a free tasting of classic and new products from the famous Alicante nougat firm.
The Sirvent family from Jijona which boasts 12 generations dedicated to the production of nougat, chocolates, marzipan and sweets since 1725, has been the driving force behind this proposal that rounds off the cultural and tourist attraction in Madrid.
The Madrid museum joins the firm’s other museums in Jijona (Alicante) and Toledo.
