From 19 February to 17 May 2026, the MAPFRE Foundation. Recoletos Hall will host an exhibition devoted to the work of Anders Zorn, one of the leading Swedish painters from the end of the 19th century and early 20th century.
Renowned for his mastery of oil painting, watercolours, and engraving, Anders Zorn (1860–1920) stood out as an international portraitist, depicting kings, presidents and renowned figures of his era.
The exhibition reviews his early years, from the watercolours in his youth to his time in England and Paris, where he consolidated his style, influenced by French Impressionism. His trips to the United States enabled him to capture the opulence of The Gilded Age, while in his hometown of Mora, he portrayed everyday Swedish life with great sensitivity.
His work includes portraits, nudes, and landscapes, as well as his Spanish paintings, featuring scenes from Seville, Cádiz, and Granada. The exhibition also reflects the influence of Joaquín Sorolla and their friendship, revealing an artistic dialogue between Sweden and Spain.
