The science fiction film by Ridley Scott, nominated for several Oscars® with Vangelis’ soundtrack, will be coming to the Municipal Palace at IFEMA MADRID on 2 and 3 May. It will be a unique experience that combines a large-screen projection of the director's Final Cut version with live music performed by The Avex Ensemble, a group of eleven musicians specialised in electronic film scores, directed by Pete Billington.
The Blade Runner (1982) film will be screened on a large HD screen in its original version with Spanish subtitles, whilst The Avex Ensemble performs Vangelis' iconic soundtrack in sync. On its visit to Spain, this project has the support of the Palau de la Música Catalana and the Vallés Symphony Orchestra.
The Avex Ensemble was founded in 2019 and is based in the United Kingdom. This ensemble specialises in concerts of electronic film soundtracks. It has performed in productions like Blade Runner Live and The Terminator Live at venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and the Hammersmith Apollo in London and the Orchard Hall in Tokyo, among other major venues. Its classically trained members have worked with orchestras, such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, as well as in West End musicals and projects with artists like Shakira, Coldplay or Liam Gallagher.
This project features musical direction by Pete Billington, who has worked with artists on the British and international scene, such as Rick Astley, Alison Moyet, Michael Ball, Paul Young or Boney M, as well as in West End productions and tours with musicals such as Thriller Live, The Bodyguard or Bat Out of Hell.
Directed by Ridley Scott and premièred in 1982, Blade Runner the film is based on Philip K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? It is set in a dystopian future, in which replicants exist, which are humanoids created artificially to serve humans. Actor, Harrison Ford plays Rick Deckard, a replicant hunter, a blade runner, who falls in love with the replicant, Rachel (Sean Young) and faces a group of rebel replicants’ desires for humanity.
