On 21 February, in the Sala Sinfónica of the National Music Auditorium, soprano Miriam Kutrowatz will be performing with Barucco, the Vienna Orchestra & Vocal Consort. They invite you on a musical journey to paradise under the musical direction of maestro Heinz Ferlesch.
The Barucco ensemble of original instruments, together with carefully selected vocal soloists, will be performing a selection of deeply spiritual sacred works, in different formations, climaxing with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem in D minor, K. 626.
The programme combines orchestral moments with a cappella passages of great expressive intensity, such as Da pacem Domine by Arvo Pärt, a choral meditation suspended in time, which conveys a powerful call for peace. In Mozart's sacred music, the tension between the earthly and the transcendent is always present: it expresses anguish, pain and doubt, but transforms them into hope, faith and comfort.
This recital has been performed to great acclaim in several other concert halls previously, including the Brucknerhaus in Linz and the Festspielhaus in St. Pölten, receiving praise from both audience and critics alike.
Barucco is one of Austria’s foremost ensembles when it comes to historically informed performances. Founded by conductor Heinz Ferlesch and oboist Andreas Helm, they regularly perform as the resident period orchestra at the Classic Esterhazy festival, alongside the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. The Barucco Vokal ensemble was created to perform both the solo parts and the choral sections of the programmes, to as to create maximum flexibility and stylistic coherence in each piece performed.
