39th Madrid Choreographic Competition

The Paso a 2 Choreographic Platform Cultural Association (Max Award 2011) is organising the 39th edition of the Madrid Choreographic Competition, an annual platform to promote new talents from contemporary dance, from 3 to 7 December at the Condeduque Contemporary Cultural Centre. 

In the 39th edition, 12 short newly created pieces can be seen along with various invited companies, such as Agnès Balfegó, with her solo Brindis, the La Colé project with a new creation, and a piece selected by Aerowaves. In addition to the usual performances by the selected companies, the Competition will include five solos in the early stages from the Me, Myself & I project and other parallel activities.

The selected artists will compete for more than 30 prizes, including cash prizes, residences, internships or grants. For many of the participants, taking part in the competition will be a turning point in their careers.

This festival began in 1987 as a choreographic competition, which has grown over the years until it has become a reference in modern dance in Spain. It is aimed at Spanish dancers and international choreographers who are resident in Spain and its winners are awarded artistic residences and international grants, which the jury may combine with cash prizes.
