One of the great pianists, Grigory Sokolov, will be coming to the Sala Sinfónica (Symphony Hall) at the National Music Auditorium on 23 February 2026 to perform one of his extraordinary concerts. This concert is part of the latest edition of the Scherzo Foundation’s Great Performers concert series, in which the musician has previously participated.
The concert pianist, Grigory Sokolov (St. Petersburg, Russia, 1950) was recognised worldwide after winning the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1966 but his international career did not really take off until the end of 1980.
During his musical career spanning more than fifty years, he has worked with leading national and international orchestras, such as the Philharmonia Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic or the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. He has also worked with renowned conductors, such as Valery Gergiev, Myung-Whun Chung or Herbert Blomstedt, among others.
With six albums under his belt, the Russian maestro's way of understanding music makes him a concert pianist who is not akin to studio editions, something he has maintained throughout his career, giving more than a hundred concerts accompanied by the most talented musicians.
